HI EVERYONE!
The Harvest just finished up its best week ever with lots of happy and sated food lovers. This week we are looking at plenty of Chicken, Pork, and Shrimp as well as a growing supply of diverse Tomatoes. Our Produce Growers will be transitioning from the end of cool-weather crops (Lettuce, etc.) to warm-weather (Eggplant is new this week). Our Menu in The Market will continue to evolve as more Produce becomes available. I know it’s easy to just “default” and order the same thing without looking at everything on The Market, but let me suggest that you can find some interesting items lurking in the depths of Breads, Meats, Bath and Beauty and other categories.
Speaking of which, let me bend your ear a second on the matter of COFFEE. We are proud to have JAVA GENESIS as a member of our market and here’s why. #1 - They try to buy organic whenever possible. #2 - They look for growers using sustainable growing practices. #3 - They only buy Fair Trade Coffee. The “Folgers” of the world pay as little as possible for their coffee because they can, leaving the actual growers one step above poverty. Fair Trade Coffee, as the name suggests, pays a lot more to the growers benefitting them and their local society. It adds a little cost to Java’s Coffee, but the overall benefit, not to mention the amazing taste, are worth it. We hope you’ll help support this worthy cause and delight your taste buds in the process!

Exciting news! LEILANI’S has fresh-picked ripe locally-grown Tomatoes, best available from our Heirloom cultivars. They also have pints of Black Cherry and Sun Sugar cherry Tomatoes. Tomato Heaven is Here! LEILANI’S has also added Broccoli to their extensive list of fresh locally-grown Veggies. And BRAMBERI FARM has added fresh Blackberries to their Raspberries listing, so more variety for your table.
Pork is Back! Five Hens Farms has added new offerings of free-range Pork including Pork Chops, Spare Ribs, Ham steaks, Sausage, and much more. You have really tasted Pork until you’ve tried free-range!
And speaking of Pork, if you want a great-tasting easy entree, get one of FIVE HENS’ Boston butts and glaze it with LILLIAN’S Sweet Hawaiian Sauce with a delicious sweet-salty oriental fusion. Simple yet delicious!

I am delighted to see The Harvest getting new vendors and more item choices on a weekly basis. Let me take a moment to welcome Bramberi Farm to The Market . They are Certified Naturally Grown farmers focusing on fruits, primarily naturally grown berries. Their *Easpberries were quite tasty and they will have other berries available in the coming week.
Let’s all mention Tom’s Awesome Seafood whose Georgia White Shrimp sold out last week! We had some and it was fabuloso!
Leilani’s is also expecting to add Cabbage to several varieties of Lettuce, Carrots, Bok choi, Turnips and Kale this week. And I’m also going to mention the “T” word. We should start to have real quantities of our favorite veggie in the next couple of weeks.

I hope you are all having a nice Memorial Day weekend. Hopefully you can take a few minutes to check out the news for The Market this week.
AS PROMISED we have some exciting products coming to The Market this week. First up we’ll have fresh-caught Georgia white Shrimp from TOM’S AWESOME SEAFOOD. This is fresh off the dock at Darien GA Wednesday mornings and will be available by the pound both fresh and quick frozen. See The Market for more details.
Free-range Whole Chickens are back from GRACE ACRES FARMS. These are whole Chickens, petite with a fabulous taste and texture. Most are just above 5 lbs and are priced at $5.00 a pound which is an unbeatable price. The chickens graze in rotational fields without herbicides, never vaccinated or given growth hormones for true “free-range” quality. If you like Chicken you really got to try this.
LEILANI’S added Snow Peas and Bok Choi to their Produce line last week, and will be adding Sweet Banana Peppers this week in an increasing list of offerings.. As always, take a good look at The Market to see everything that is available.

Snow Peas last minute addition to The Market!
SNOW PEAS a last minute addition to The Market at DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST!
After walking the field LEILANI’S has put Snow Peas in this week’s Market. Great in stir-fry, fried rice, sauteed in sesame oil and garlic, or in a salad with Buttercrunch Lettuce and onion and a creamy dressing.

Several vendors are back on The Market this week.
LEILANI’S is adding Bok Choi this week and Romaine Lettuce, Buttercrunch head Lettuce and Kale are available again along with Salad Mix, Turnips, Swiss Chard and one or two others. Check the Vegetable listings.
MY DAILY BREAD has a full product slate; I just got one of their Rye-Pumpernickel Loaves and thought it was great (plus high in fiber and low glycemic for blood sugar watchers).
Don’t forget FIVE HENS FARMS have great-tasting free-range chicken Eggs in 3 sizes. These are serious difference makers if you like quiche, omelets, or egg pie. You need to try them.

This Week’s Market Availability is going to be low as a couple of main providers take a week to recoup and transition into a higher gear. LEILANI’S and MY DAILY BREAD are both down for the week.
But do not despair. More and different Produce will be available for May 22nd, and maybe fresh Berries as well, and we’re only 2 or 3 weeks away from the season’s first Tomatoes! So, good times are coming!
