First of all, a Shout-Out to Bruce Wills of DAILY BREAD who underwent pacemaker surgery last week. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
FIVE HENS FARM is having a Pork Sale with their tasty Breakfast Sausage just $6.75, Ham Steaks at $8 a pound, ditto for all their yummy Ribs. That makes this the perfect time to give these delecacies a try, and try LILLIAN’S SWEET HAWAIIAN SAUCE on the Ribs for an amazing Asian-tinged BBQ flavor.
AND BACK on the Menu for September is Squash and Zucchini from LEILANI’S to go along with their Okra, Peppers, Eggplant, and (if the chipmunks will leave them alone) maybe some green beans next week.

Here’s the scoop. LEILANI’S has lots and lots of Okra, several varieties of Eggplant, great-tasting Potatoes, Peppers, and a few Green Beans. FIVE HENS still has plenty of Eggs and Pork, MY DAILY BREAD has its full menu of Breads, Desserts and Cookies, Jams and Jellies, and lots of other delicious items. Plus the Harvest has Shrimp and free-range Chicken and Raw Milk. Take a look at the Market for this week and see what will tickle your taste buds.

HI EVERYONE!
Here’s what’s happening on the Produce front for late summer. Berry-wise, BRAMBERI FARMS expects to have Red Raspberries for the next several weeks with Blackberries joining their listings shortly. Over at LEILANI’S the good news is Okra is available (and delicious) and should be around a while, the Eggplant is piling in, Peppers are making a bit of a resurgence, and wonderful Potatoes and good Tomatoes are available. The bad news? Corn came and went in a single week due, I guess, to pent-up demand! WOW! Sure was great, though. On a more optomistic note, both Squash and Zucchini plants are flowering so we should have both available in 2 weeks hopefully.
Don’t forget about the fabulous quick-frozen Georgia White Shrimp from TOM’S. It doesn’t get any fresher unless you go out on the boat and cook it as it’s caught!

HI EVERYONE!
Okay, so I’ll admit I will never be a poet, but you gotta love that line! Yes, LEILANI’S finally has Organic Okra and Organic White Sweet Corn! And once you taste it I think you’ll agree it was worth the wait. First off, the Corn is simply the best I’ve ever had. It is organic, which could mean corn worms, but it’s great, and it’ll only be around 2 – 3 weeks, SO ORDER NOW!!
The Okra is right behind the corn in taste, and is a nice medium size and excellent texture. We should have this a while longer, but I wouldn’t wait too long on this either.
In other news, BRAMBERI FARMS still is able to harvest fresh Red Raspberries long after most other pickers have quit. And MY DAILY BREAD continues to have a full menu of delicious Breads, Dips, Jellies and more. Finally, the Harvest has a new supply of Georgia White Sheimp from TOM’S, plus free-range PORK, CHICKEN, and EGGS.

HI EVERYBODY.
Got some news flashes for you.
LEILANI’S continues to have plenty of Tomatoes, Squash, Cucumbers, Peppers, and Eggplant, as well as the Potatoes and Onions added last week. They harvested an Okra today, which Leilani pronounced “excellent” as she ate it raw. This single bold adventurer will be joined by dozens, nay, hundreds of fellow Okras (Okri?) in the Harvest for next week. Their Corn may also be ready then.
MY DAILY BREAD has added Organic Veggie Cream Cheese Spread to their list of Dips and Spreads.
The Market is ordering Fresh Shrimp from TOM’S AWESOME SEAFOOD this week. Order yours now.
If you like Bratwurst you owe it to yourself to try 5 HENS FARMS version. Every one is raving about it.

Mid-summer, and amazing Produce and a few “Treats” are ready for you this week. Starting with the Vegetable side, LEILANI’S is adding tart and tasty Onions to their offerings this week, plus their new crop of Potatoes, Red and White, are also deliciously ready, joining a big menu list of Tomatoes, Eggplant, Cucumbers, Squash, Peppers, and more.
Next item, MY DAILY BREAD has returned from their week of maintenance and have added Peanut Butter Cookies to their regular list of scrumptious delights.

Hope you are all finding a way to stay cool! Here’s the news for The Market this week.
LEILANI’S has a very attractive, unusual white Eggplant named Gretel with an outstanding mild flavor ready this week. You could use this grilled instead of the Oriental Eggplant (see recipe in the Recipes section) which would be a real eye-catcher. Also, the Okra is almost ready, so stay tuned.
No Bread this week. Due to maintenance requirements MY DAILY BREAD is “offline” this week. Bummer. They’ll be back next week.
If you’re looking for a safe, all-natural laundry detergent, take a look at the offering from HANALEI BATH in the Home and Garden Supplies section. It’s mid-July. What’s New at the Harvest?
HI EVERYONE!
NEW PRODUCE THIS WEEK: Finally a good quantity of yellow Squash from LEILANI’S, as well as both pickling Cucumbers and slicing Cucumbers. They also have Purple Beans (“Amethyst”) and organic Potatoes (everything they do is organic), and the first specific availability for Cherokee Purple Tomatoes.
Remember me mentioning some of the hidden “gems” down in the Market listings? Well, here’s one: The other day I was looking for something different for lunch and thought of a childhood favorite, Peanut Butter and jelly. I bought some of MY DAILY BREAD’S Hot Pepper Peach jelly a while back so I used that for sandwiches for me and Leilani. We both loved the unexpectedly sweet, spicy blend, and can’t wait to have it again.

HI EVERYONE!
Summer Produce availability is increasing by leaps and bounds! This week sees lots of Squash, pickling Cucumbers, red, deep purple, and yellow Bell Peppers, Purple Beans, 8 Ball and “regular” Zucchini, more Eggplant varieties, and lots more for your summer table. “Quick-Frozen” Shrimp, a full range of free-range Pork and Chicken, and other tasty items are also available this week.
Elsewhere, take a look at HANALEI BATH’s new Summer listings, including cool items like Key Lime Whipped Shea Butter and Lavender Gardener’s Soap. They also have a great all-natural Litsea Lavender Laundry Soap!

Great Eats for July 4th!!

HI EVERYONE!
It’s the July 4th weekend coming up, and the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST is ready to help. First up, make for a festive gathering with scrumptious appetizers like the Beer Buzzed Cheese Dip from MY DAILY BREAD. How about BBQ with Pork Spare Ribs or superbly seasoned Brats from FIVE HENS. And put some “shrimp on the barbie” with Fresh Shrimp from TOM’S AWESOME SEAFOOD.
Here’s a fabulous side dish idea: get some of LEILANI’S fresh-picked Oriental Eggplant. Slice them lengthwise and marinade one hour in 1/4 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup sherry, 3 cloves minced garlic, 2 tbsp. sesame oil. and salt and pepper to taste, then grill. YUM! Or how about crispy Cabbage for superior cole slaw?
MY DAILY BREAD has more than bread. This week they will have fresh Blueberries to go along with BRAMBERI’S Raspberries and Blackberries. LEILANI’S has also added Green Beans to the menu, a perfect accompaniment slow cooked or in a salad for the Fourth. The Market continues to gear up for the Summer with scads of Heirloom Tomatoes and we’ll have more to talk about next week!
