HI EVERYONE
The Dawson Harvest is constantly adding, subtracting, and changing. That’s a good thing, since it means an ever-changing menu of different Goodies throughout the year. But it also means you need to take a closer look from time to time to see just what is new! For instance, did you know that DAILY BREAD has a Quinoa Salad with feta cheese, tomatoes, lots of veggie bits, honey, olive oil, red wine vinegar, and plenty more (in the Prepared Foods section) or that COPPERHEAD HOMESTEAD has a “Busy Week” grass-fed Beef Package with several different cuts for multiple dinners over a few days. Elsewhere Tomatoes are back and so are Red Bell Peppers. An extra 5 or 10 minutes browsing the website will turn up all sorts of healthy and tasty things you didn’t realize were here. Take a look this week and see what you’re missing.

Lots of new things to report for The Market. LEILANI’S has added the ever-elusive Shallot to the Vegetable section. Shallots, a succulent like onions and garlic, are highly prized by chefs and gourmets, and now you can find out why! Try them in the recipe below for a yummy summer soup. Available now, plus Green Beans and Cucumbers are also back this week..
CULTURAL TRADITIONS has added Mint Lime to their line of Jun beverages. This effervescent green-tea-and honey drink is Very refreshing! And ON SALE this week, Simply Caraway Kraut and Kimchi are just $6, both normally $10. It’s a great chance to try some really tasty eastern cuisine at a bargain price.
FARMHOUSE ESSENTIALS is back on The Market with an excellent line of personal health and beauty and household products. These excellent products have none of the harsh chemicals and unpronounceable additives you find in most commercial offerings. It’s all safe and natural and wholesome. Check the Bath and Beauty section for their natural Laundry detergent, scented hand sanitizers and essential oil products.
Onion Soup for the Prince and Princess of Wales:
Yes, this is a variant of a soup for royalty! Dice 2-3 onions, 3 oz. of shallots, 2 garlic cloves and saute’ in butter until golden. Add 8 oz. chicken stock and reduce 1/3, add 1 pint heavy cream, simmer 15 min. Let cool then blend until smooth. Reheat, salt and pepper, a little curry if you like, and garnish with chives and a little more cream. We’ve had this for 20 years and love it!

NEWS from The Dawson Harvest This Week
HI EVERYBODY!
There’s some NEWS for The Market this August. First off, FIVE HENS FARMS will be moving soon. Their free-range Pork is excellent, but there is no assurance they’ll be able to resume production at their new farm, so what they have listed will be it for right now. You need to order now while their Pork is still available.
Product Review: I grew up on Daddy’s country fried steak, breaded and slow cooked, and I learned how to cook it from him. In recent years I stopped because I kept getting, tough, gristly cube steak, no matter where we bought it. Well, NO MORE! We ordered some of COPPERHEAD HOMESTEAD’s grass-fed Cubed Steak and it wad wonderful. It’s extremely tender almost like veal scallopine, you can cut it with a fork, and there’s no odd or weird taste. It does taste a little different than “regular” corn-fed beef and it is very lean so you may want to add a little fat (ie. olive oil or an egg to hamburger). But this is a great way to “eat clean and eat healthy”. Look’s in the Meat section for all the cuts they have available.
VEGETABLES This Week: LEILANI’S has several varieties that are back on The Market for this week. Leading the way are several different Eggplants. My present favorites right now are Gretel, a white miniature great for grilling, and Millionaire Asian for “authentic” stir-fry. Elsewhere in Peppers, Big Green and Purple Bells, Jalapenos, and Sweet Bananas. Yellow Squash is back, and both regular Green Zucchini and the bright Yellow Zucchini is coming in, plus 8-balls are in next week. And we’ll manage a couple more orders of Green Beans, but don’t delay on ordering those.
